Douglas Says: Fashion is Made in America | April 5, 2012

Douglas Says: Fashion is Made in America

Douglas Says’ main theme this year for Fall 2012 is Fashion Made in America. What better way to show this theme then with patriotic fashion. His desire? To have people support American made products. This way, it will introduce more jobs and put more food on American’s tables.

He uses jersey knit fabric, an American made fabric, on all his designs. His designs are strictly American made. One bit of advice he gives about the fabric is that it works fantastic as a travel collection because the fabric is practically wrinkle free. The fabric is known for its comfort and fit … Read More »

A Visit With Eco-Friendly Designer, Allison Parris | March 29, 2012

A Visit With Eco-Friendly Designer, Allison Parris

When Kaitlin wrote a post about Allison Parris, I immediately fell in love with her dresses.  We had written about Allison’s designs back in 2010 when she presented her collection as well.  I was so excited when Allison invited me to her showroom and studio in New York to view her Spring/Summer 2012 collection.  I took Clara with me to do the modeling because the samples were a perfect fit!

Allison’s designers are elegant with a hint of whimsy.  Flirty, yet sophisticated.  All of her dresses and separates would definitely give you the perfect chic look for any special event.

I promise … Read More »

Think Pink Jewels…and More | October 3, 2011

Think Pink Jewels…and More

“I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and… I believe in miracles. ” – Audrey Hepburn

It’s October and with it, Breast Cancer awareness month and it’s time we ALL start thinking about miracles! As a partner in Surviving Beautifully, a brand new project to help women with aesthetic issues during treatment, it’s my latest, heartfelt work. I promise more about that later. For now, the … Read More »

Whadda Stud! | August 15, 2011

Whadda Stud!

Move aside Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Matthew McConaughey and the Old Spice guy…there’s a new stud in town. He’s slick, shiny and hard – colorful, too – and maybe a little naughty. He’s…AN EARRING?? Haha, betcha didn’t see that coming. Or maybe, knowing me, you did.

A stud earring is very similar to a studly guy: handsome, versatile and easy to wear…um, you know what I mean! Before I get myself in hot water, here’s are some of my picks for Sexiest Stud Alive.

Boy do I heart Vivienne Westwood, and her silver studs are no exception. These little gems sport Westwood’s … Read More »

It’s Better in Leather | August 11, 2011

It’s Better in Leather

When I was 18, I put a bumpersticker on my car from a leather boy shop in Boston. Sporting discreet little handcuffs, it read: “It’s Better in Leather.” This really spiffed up my uber-dorky VW Dasher! My feeling of cool was cut short when, unsurprisingly, my parents removed it. I was hugely annoyed at their bourgeois mentality but soon realized that suburban New England was not ready for me…or my pretentious leather.

My love affair with leather began long before my bumper sticker and continues long after. Gone is the 1980s, and 1990s, and 2000s and with the decades, … Read More »

Gems for Good: Interview with Jeweler and Healer Andrea Rosenfeld | July 12, 2011

Gems for Good: Interview with Jeweler and Healer Andrea Rosenfeld

Who doesn’t love a pretty, sparkly gemstone? I sure do! But what if a gem can be so much more than a beautiful bauble? According to Andrea Rosenfeld, a New Jersey-based jewelry designer, Reiki practitioner and all-around cool multi-media artist, gemstones can do more than just dress up an outfit: they can heal.

Now, I’m as hippie-dippie lovey-dovey as I can be in our cynical postmodern age, but this one was new to me. So I had to talk personally with Andrea and find out how gemstones do double-duty as nurturing objects…and see some of them in action in … Read More »
