Play by Your Rules: Tips to Living True to Yourself | May 21, 2012

Play by Your Rules: Tips to Living True to Yourself

Kathie Truitt, author of The Hillbilly Debutante Café, one day found herself jobless and homeless, a paradoxical opportunity to completely turn her life around; a second chance. Kathie says, “I got rid of the socialite sweater sets, the business suits and pumps, which were not me, and went to what is me – vintage dresses and cowboy boots… I surround myself with the things I like; I have a country-style house, I drive a pickup, and, once a month, I take a ride out to one of the places featured in Southern Living magazine.”

You don’t have to have a lot of … Read More »

Travels in Turkey | April 12, 2012

Travels in Turkey

I’m always thinking of places I could travel that would offer new experiences. Turkey holidays have a lot to offer.

Not only is the landscape gorgeous, but there are really interesting sights to see. The thermal pools, for example, are not found everywhere. Surrounded by a dazzling, though cold, landscape you can enjoy healing sessions in these thermal pools. The Pamukkale pools are particularly beautiful. Sounds like a great view and relaxing visit.

Another interesting spot would be the Sultan Ahmed Mosque. The mosque is large and filled with wondrous mosaics and colorful stained glass. Or, if you would like to spend … Read More »

Pack Light with Bungalow Co! | April 9, 2012

Pack Light with Bungalow Co!

Whether you’re planning the perfect weekend getaway with that special someone or just planning ahead for your summer vacation, we’ve rounded up the perfect bags that you’ll need to get you there. There really is no point in checking baggage. If there is one thing I’ve learned from my pilot fiancé, it’s that I overpack extremely too often. We visited Hawaii in 2009 and I checked two bags which ended up costing me approximately $50 a piece. I (obviously) did not need everything that I packed.

In all reality, you only truly need a few things for a small getaway: swimwear, … Read More »

Take a timeout in Tenerife | March 31, 2012

Take a timeout in Tenerife

Gloomy weather has me dreaming about relaxing on a holiday in Tenerife.

Sailing around the island could be fun, and I hear there are great opportunities for whale-watching.

Because of the volcanoes on the island of Tenerife, most of the beaches have black sand, but there are plenty of resorts to visit where golden beaches are made for sunbathing. My personal choice would be Puerto de la Cruz resort, one of the best in the Canary Islands.

Nearby you can visit the old part of the town, where the locals work, eat and drink. The lovely area around the old fishing port is … Read More »

The Island of Eternal Spring | March 20, 2012

The Island of Eternal Spring

When spring doesn’t start right away, I find myself wishing I was somewhere more pleasant. Can you imagine if you were relaxing in the sunny weather in Fuerteventura?

The beaches on the island of eternal spring are known for not only being pleasant, but a bit windy. Instead of just messing your hair up, however, the element makes the second largest of the Canary Islands a windsurfer’s paradise.

The constant winds blowing onto the beaches provide a perfect situation for windsurfing. Corralejo, which is situated on the north end of the island, is made up of fine sand dunes and is a … Read More »

Get in Touch with Nature in Canada | March 8, 2012

Get in Touch with Nature in Canada

When I was a kid living in Alaska, I had the incredible opportunity to drive through Canada and it was an experience I will never forget. Canada is unlike any place in the world, and we Americans are pretty lucky because getting to Canada is so easy. Flights to Canada are inexpensive and often quite short, and all you need is a current passport. I know many people, when trying to pick their next vacation, often don’t think of Canada as a must-see destination, but this peaceful, unique, and beautiful country has so much to offer.

With no shortage … Read More »

Munich’s Famed Hofbrauhaus | June 2, 2011

Munich’s Famed Hofbrauhaus

“When in Rome do as the Romans do,” and when in Munich…Do the Hofbrauhaus! Yes, it’s touristy, but a visit to this incredible European city wouldn’t be complete without it (even if you’re not chugging!).

It is one of Munich’s oldest, largest and most famous beer halls. From the moment the doors open at 9:00am until they close at midnight, the atmosphere is like a non-stop and very rowdy party filled with mostly tourists, but a lot of locals too.

It’s also one of the few Beer Gardens that has live Oompah music during lunch and … Read More »

Little Princes: One Man’s Promise to Bring Home the Lost Children of Nepal | March 8, 2011

Little Princes: One Man’s Promise to Bring Home the Lost Children of Nepal

In search of adventure, 29-year-old Conor Grennan traded his day job for a year-long trip around the globe, a journey that began with a three-month stint volunteering at the Little Princes Children’s Home, an orphanage in war-torn Nepal.

Conor was initially reluctant to volunteer, unsure whether he had the proper skill, or enough passion, to get involved in a developing country in the middle of a civil war. But he was soon overcome by the herd of rambunctious, resilient children who would challenge and reward him in a way that he had never imagined. When Conor learned the unthinkable truth about … Read More »
