The Red Flags of Teen Depression

Childhood has its ups and downs that are usually taken care of with a good amount of hugs, band-aids and ice cream, but these same ups and downs in the teen years can go much deeper than any hug, band-aid or bowl of ice cream can fix. How do you know when your teen is experiencing the downs you can’t see? There are red flags that can alert you to situations that require immediate attention, but you need to be aware of them.

Can You Say Teen And Organization In The Same Sentence? | November 29, 2010

Can You Say Teen And Organization In The Same Sentence?

If you are living with a teen then you know that organization is something they struggle with on a daily basis. In fact, even carrying on a conversation about organization usually results in less organization on their part. Do they live this way to aggravate you? Probably not, but then again it depends on the circumstance.

As your children hit their teen years they have a lot going on in their young lives. They are growing both socially and physically, as well as growing apart from you as they learn independence. Even though you may give them room to fail and … Read More »

Packing School Lunches & Snacks

I don’t know about your house but it seems that the boys never can agree on the same thing. Every once in awhile they can agree on what to watch on TV. but usually I think my youngest just concedes. So it goes without saying the one of them prefers the school cafeteria lunch and the other one wants to bring his lunch to school!

Now that we have been in school for almost two months, you have probably found some things that work and some that don’t work. I have found that packing my son’s lunch isn’t really that hard … Read More »

Homework…Is it Stressful in Your House? | September 28, 2010

Homework…Is it Stressful in Your House?

In our house we start our homework at 4:00 p.m., no not at 4:15 p.m., 4:00 rain or shine! Generally speaking I have our home on a routine, schedule if you must…gasp…I know you are thinking…no not, Michelle! I like the boys to be able to have their snack first, play or watch TV. I have friends who insist that the children do their homework before they do anything else. I feel you need a break, to chill and relax before you jump back into your school work again.

Homework can be a huge battle for families and it is extremely … Read More »

Making School Mornings Run Smoothly | March 16, 2010

Making School Mornings Run Smoothly

When your children have finished their homework after school, ask them to put their folders back into their backpacks so they are ready for the morning.  If your child is allowed to bring a snack to school have them pick out their crackers and put them in the backpack as well.

As your children head up stairs for the night, ask them to “grab” their stuff on the stairs and any items they have left behind downstairs to take up to their rooms.  If they do not “grab” their stuff  you could suggest that it will become your stuff for … Read More »
