Meatless Monday: Pumpkin Gnocci With Walnut Sage Sauce | April 9, 2012

Meatless Monday: Pumpkin Gnocci With Walnut Sage Sauce

Most people believe I’m Italian. Perhaps it’s the way I wave my hands around whenever I’m enthused (which is most of the time). Or could it be that I have dark hair and a definite Mediterranean look? And you would think that since my teaching specialty is Italian, I would have been born of the culture. But one way you’d know I have no Italian blood is if you ever watched me prepare gnocchi. I might as well be from any Main Street USA; my skills with this delicate pillow of potato are sad, just sad.

I’ve given it my best … Read More »

Boozy Pumpkin Pie | December 14, 2009

Boozy Pumpkin Pie

I am not a pumpkin pie kind of gal. Mostly, I dislike the glurping noise it makes when you mix it and the texture of the finished pie. But I was very intrigued when I saw this recipe for Boozy Pumpkin Pie and had to try it.  It was awesome. The beaten egg whites lend a welcome lightness to the finished product and the Canadian Whiskey adds a nice sort of bite to it. I made the traditional pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving but this is an extra special pumpkin pie to make for Christmas.

Start by placing the contents of one … Read More »

Pumpkins Aren’t Just For Carving–Fun Beauty Products For Fall! | October 31, 2009

How’s that for a Halloween mask?

They’re loaded with beta-carotene, and because of their antioxidant content, including vitamin A and active enzymes, they’re often a main ingredient in peels to brighten and nourish your skin with a natural chemical exfoliation.  And thanks  to its … Read More »

A Heartwarming Bowl Of Soup | September 10, 2008

There’s something magical about a bowl of soup on a cold day, it warms you up, clears your sinuses and gives you a satisfied fuzzy feeling all over.

Fall is the perfect time to cosy up to a steaming bowl with big flavours and wonderful contrasting textures. This soup combines silky pumpkin, smoky chorizo, nutty chickpeas and sweet paprika to create a complex flavour and filling chunky texture.

A quick squeeze of lime at the table and a drizzle of grassy extra virgin olive oil is all it needs to make your taste buds sing at meal time. Beat the … Read More »
