Top 3 Weight Loss Tips for 2011!

by Annette Sym

As we start a New Year, many have set new goals for self improvement. One way that can help is looking for role models, mentors or people to inspire, encourage and who will give us the motivation and drive to succeed. I hope that I can be that person for anyone who is overweight and feeling like it is just too hard to make the changes needed to achieve their goals. I know from my own personal experience how it feels, and that’s why it is so important to me to … Read More »

The Weight Loss Connection To Emotional Well-Being & Nurturing Your Spirit

By Suzanne Pantazis

This article is devoted to encouraging you to take a good honest look at the roadblocks which may be keeping you unhealthy and to help you find ways of overcoming these roadblocks.  I have managed to lose and keep off 100 pounds for over three years now. A critical part of my success has been taking care of my emotional well-being and nurturing my spirit and learning how to love myself again and re-build my self-esteem.

30-Minute Meals: Cashew Shrimp | January 26, 2011

30-Minute Meals: Cashew Shrimp

Toss this healthy dish together fast. It’s so simple and elegant that you’ll surprise family and friends with your culinary skills. One of my favorite meals because the clean up is even faster. One bowl, one wok, that’s all you need and no one will ever know how healthy and low-cal it is! I’ll admit it. I’ve been known to toss in all sorts of colorful veggies when cleaning out the fridge. Can’t get enough of a good thing, now can you?

7 Steps to Aging Beautifully | January 26, 2011

7 Steps to Aging Beautifully

Don’t Be a Bone Head–take your calcium! You need at least 1,500 milligrams of calcium every day to keep bones strong, especially after menopause when estrogen levels drop. Taking a calcium supplement daily can help but small doses two to three times a day will help your body absorb the calcium more easily.

Go Faux –you’ve heard me talk about the dangers of tanning (probably endlessly) and the residual damage I have because of it. It’s not too late to stop additional sun damage–just wear sunscreen every day. I like to use a moisturizer with sunscreen built in–at least an SPF … Read More »

NEW YEAR, NEW YOU! START EATING BREAKFAST | January 26, 2011

NEW YEAR, NEW YOU! START EATING BREAKFAST

By Joyce Daoust, CN

My #1 recommendation for an overall healthier you this year is to always start your day by eating a high-quality, fat-burning breakfast.  A breakfast that contains 200-300 calories with a 40-30-30 ratio of carbohydrate, protein and fat is a powerful choice you can make daily to improve mental focus and energy and stabilize key hormones responsible for burning stored body fat for fuel all morning long.

So what should you eat?  Below are four of my favorite breakfast recommendations:

Cottage Cheese & Fruit

1/2 cup 2% cottage cheese

1 small apple

4-5 almonds

Eggs & Fruit

Scrambled eggs … Read More »

Your Relationship…With Food! | January 25, 2011

Your Relationship…With Food!

You might not think you have a relationship with food, but you do. It is a relationship that is first born when we are, when we need nourishment from our mothers to survive. Our need for food follows us daily. Eating or drinking the wrong things over the course of our lives can lead to a host of illnesses and health concerns. When we are young, we have no say in what our bodies receive, but as we age, we have celebrations around food, we have issues with food, we have internal fights, we get giddy, we have romantic dinners, … Read More »

Healthy Eating: Lobster and Shrimp Alfredo | January 19, 2011

Healthy Eating: Lobster and Shrimp Alfredo

I have a super easy recipe that if you can boil water you can make it. It is also elegant and low in calories and fat grams. I substitute rich stock and non fat sour cream for the heavy cream and butter in traditional Alfredo sauces.
