It seems like women are always sacrificing something for fashion and beauty. We wear dresses that don’t allow us to sit, or shoes that pinch our feet. We even go to the salons and breath in toxins and risk brittle nails just to get that fresh mani. What we have to go through huh?

While we do what we have too for fashion, we no longer have to sacrifice our health for trendy nails. Now we have Dr.’s Remedy, an enriched nail polish developed by doctors and has the seal of approval from the American Podiatric Medical Association.

I had the pleasure of reviewing the summer 2011 collection on my blog, you can click HERE for the review. Dr.’s Remedy is also big 3 free! Meaning it does not contain the big three chemicals found in some nail polishes and hardeners. These are formaldehyde, toluene and DBP, not only are these chemicals bad for your nails, they are also bad for your health. Which ever scent you go with you are sure to love. The only problem you will have is deciding on which scent to wear first.

Snakeskin Manicure

Snakeskin items were always considered luxury things. If you were/are into that look, dropping $300 on a handbag or a pair of boots was nothing. But would you spend $300 to wear snakeskin on your fingernails or toenails?

That’s right. Snakeskin mani’s and pedi’s are the latest in nail art. Created by nail tech Terri Silacci, she wanted to figure out how to match her nails to her tote. And so the snakeskin manicure was born. “It wasn’t until my kids brought the shredded skin of a 4-foot python home that I thought, that’s it; I’m going to do it with real snakeskin.” She said.

When I first read about this new and unusual nail art, I wanted to know more about it. The first thing that came to mind was, WWPD. What would PETA do? Are snakes being harmed in order for people to rock the latest in nail fashion? So I researched, and this is what I know.

The skin used to create this look comes from the skin left behind once the snake sheds. The skin is then cut into pieces to fit your nail. The manicurist uses a gel varnish to set and the UV to harden. This process can take up to two hours and range in price from $150-$300! With a mani/pedi combo costing up $550. The manicure can last up to two weeks, while the pedicure can last up to eight.

So, would you be able to stomach real snakeskin on your nails? I don’t think I would be able too.
