This Whimsical Wednesday is dedicated to a dear friend of mine who’s been a fashion inspiration of mine for several years. Something I’ve always admired about this friend is her minimalistic wardrobe. Each season she culls her closet of things she isn’t crazy about — the pilled shirts, the pulled sweaters, the snagged tights — to make way for a selection of new items. What I find most impressive is her ability to keep her styles and colors harmonious. The wardrobe of Yours Truly is a 20-shade disaster zone of mismatched patterns, clashing colors, and two-month trends — yikes!!

What I tried to capture in this post was my friend’s ability to mix it up within her carefully-balanced personal style. Dark haired and fair skinned, she looks captivating in deep greens and blues, but knows how to liven them up with lighter neutrals, like this simple scarf, and bright accents, such as the mustard florals on this stunning Alice & Olivia dress. Choosing a peacoat in your best color and tights in complementary shades is sensible. A quirky patchwork of personality items: feather earrings, cowboy style ankle boots, a seahorse ring? That’s whimsical!
