Winter fashions are sometimes hard to predict, although thankfully there are always those classic pieces that never go out of style. This winter season 2012-2013 looks to be a particularly low-key affair from the runway, with lots of neutral colours and beautifully formal designs. Here are some of the key things a fashion lover can’t live without this winter:
A Little Black Dress. You can bring a thousand colours back into fashion, but the LBD will always reign supreme. Combine it with a scarf or shawl for a splash of colour, or use gold jewellery to give your outfit a touch of warmth and glamour. Classics like this are in style throughout the year – check out fashion sales giant La Redoute for a fantastic selection.
A good coat. Think big this year when shopping for your perfect coat; Chanel and Hermes have both been spotted sending over-sized trench coats and overcoats down the runway in a variety of styles. Go for a broad, double-breasted number, or for something a little more feminine, look out for the gown-style wrap-around.
A warm cardigan. Bold, bright knitwear is in this year, so look out for clashing colours and geometric shapes to make a graphic statement this season. Reds and blacks are ideal for the Christmas period, while a more classic version uses black and white to create a monochrome effect.
Beautiful boots. An absolute staple in winter, boots come in all shapes and sizes, and offer both style and comfort throughout the colder months. A good pair of Chelsea boots is ideal, as they’ll match a pair of skinny jeans or a pair of tights just as well.
Soft accessories. Chunky knitted hats and scarves in matching colours give your outfit a soft, textured look, and provide a great way to add some colour – alpaca wool is particularly soft! Alternatively, leather gloves with an attractive pattern or print offer a touch of glamour, especially with lace or ribbon for more formal outfits.
