On October 3rd, Marchesa and the NFL launched a surprising collaboration: New York Jets shirts. This comes after the recent launch of the “It’s My Team” NFL Women’s Apparel campaign that featured celebrities such as Condoleezza Rice, Serena Williams, and Melania Trump.
For the past year, Georgina Chapman, the designer and co-founder of Marchesa, and Suzanna Johnson, New York Jets owner Woody Johnson’s wife, have been working on these shirts in what they call a “sport meets couture” collaboration. The Jets shirts were made in the USA and were made with viscose jersey fabric and are covered with Swarovski crystals.
Tracey Bleczinski, the NFL’s Vice President of Consumer Products – Apparel said, “This one-of-a-kind shirt is the ultimate fusion of sport and fashion. We are thrilled to be working with Marchesa and visionary designer Georgina Chapman to take NFL Women’s Apparel to the next level and to bring our fans yet another stylish way to wear their love for their team.”
Georgina Chapman said, “My design philosophy centers around the dramatic and feminine; beading, embellishments and lace are an integral part of the Marchesa aesthetic. It was instinctive to approach the Jets piece in the same manner. “I am so pleased with the end result and hope fans wear it with pride.”
