On September 13th, 2011, East meets West fashion designer, Vivienne Tam, made her debut into the world of athletic apparel with the help of leading Chinese athletic apparel brand owner and Olympic Gold Medalist, Li Ning. During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City, Tam introduced her first-ever fashion yoga collection in the form of a “Live Sculpture Garden.” During the presentation, 20 leading female yogis, dressed head-to-toe in Tam’s new line, performed choreographed yoga led by International Yoga experts Rodney Yee and Colleen Yee, creating a unique living and breathing fashion yoga installation.
An avid Yogi herself, Vivienne Tam’s mission was to create the modern woman’s ‘Fashion Yoga Collection,’ a lifestyle line that transitions women from yoga to everyday living. A long time love for yoga is what inspired her to create this collection. She explains, “I’ve been practicing Yoga since the early 90’s as it provides me with a sense of peace and focus. With my crazy schedule, regularly flying back and forth from Hong Kong to the United States, Yoga has been the one thing that not only keeps me focused, but provides me with a sense of peace and better energy. My one frustration was that I could not find athletic apparel in fashionable styles and colors that I could wear to the Yoga studio and then to the office or anywhere else in my everyday life. Because of this, I decided to create a Fashion Yoga Collection.” Tam’s background story really gives insight into her motivation to create such a superior yoga collection.
Aesthetically beautiful garments are expected of a high-caliber fashion designer such as Vivienne Tam. In addition to this collection’s careful design and beautifully constructed pieces, a large part of its desirability comes from its vibrant colors. The colors: purples, blues, and greens are from nature translate well into the collection. The garments are both beautiful and well suited for yoga. The pieces are seamless and lightweight with built-in support and breath-ability. The line is made to feel like a second piece of skin. Clothing that becomes one with your body. The pieces are purposefully designed to flow with body from pose to pose.
Vivienne Tam, Li Ning and Rodney Yee (a top “yogi” with new DVD from www.Gaiam.com called: Daily Yoga) partner to form an athletic-apparel-meets-fashion dream team. As a result of this fantastic partnership, there finally exists a beautifully stylish and practically functional collection of yoga garments. Tam created this exciting collection to merge yoga life with the rest of life. Finally, a lifestyle friendly collection of yoga clothing has been created. These functionally beautiful garments transition well from the yoga studio to lunch or shopping. A big thank you to Vivienne Tam and her dream team for the most stylish and functional line of yoga to date. Even though the announcement of Vivienne Tam’s new yoga line was recently made public, it is not available for online purchase until spring 2012; the prices will range from $65 to $210, www.viviennetam.com.
