It was the beginning of summer 2005 and as usual I had nothing better to do than sit up in my room and read a book. After all I had no job, no money, and I had just dropped out of university doing a course I had no business even thinking about!

The book I was reading was about a publishing dynasty and half way through it, a random voice in my head asked “why don’t you write?”. Mind you, this voice had surfaced a few years earlier, and my answer then had been; “because I am a reader, not a writer”, but on this occasion I answered “why not”?

And so began the journey of my life – both figuratively and literally!

After submitting my answer to The Voice I went back to reading and promptly forgot about it, until approximately 20 minutes later when I started getting an idea. This idea took over my thought process to the point where I could no longer concentrate on reading the book. So, I stopped and tried to write the idea down but it was not happening… I knew what I wanted to say, I just could not formulate the words.

After a few days of getting nowhere with writing the idea, I decided to put it to one side because other stories were starting to formulating in my mind. Three weeks later I had two story ideas and I was on a roll, so I decided to take a break one evening and watch Enemy of the State with Will Smith. I remember thinking that if I was the one being pursued like that, I wouldn’t even last on my own unless I had money – and thus my first novel was born.

The Run: London’s Secret is about a curious young woman who stumbles upon a ritual sacrifice while out on a job interview. Being broke and desperate, she decides to steal from the scene and runs away, thinking she has gotten away scot-free… until the ritual sacrifice is brought into her home while she and her roommate are sleeping.

Kelly and her roommate Mischia then have to go on the run to stay alive, and through a series of weird events, find themselves under the protection of a group of supernaturals called The Balancers, who are protecting them from their rival supernaturals; The Renegades.

Just as Kelly and Mischia begin to feel safe, Mischia is kidnapped by The Renegades and seemingly brainwashed into working for them. While The Balancers try to get Mischia back, the two friends find themselves in parallel experiences that they react to in totally opposite ways.

Through a series of unexpected plot turns set against a backdrop of London town, Kelly and Mischia are reunited in a final twist that sets the story up for a sequel and ends on a cliffhanger. The Run: London’s Secret is a short, fast paced novella that can be read in just a few hours.
