Toronto based Latvian Agni Tilla never leaves her home without a watch on her wrist. Struggling with finding interesting, colorful and affordable watches for her everyday wardrobe, Agni decided “It’s time to create one for myself!” Now her studio May28th offers hundreds of one-of-a-kind watches in dozens of designs and colors for every taste and occasion.
New York Magazine writes, “Lose some time on the brand’s website, where you can search new designs by color,” and calls May28th watches “fun accents for everyday.”
“Watches always used to be my favorite accessory. Other woman collect shoes, I bring home watches from all around the World,” says Agni. “When me, my husband and my 17 watch collection came to Toronto, Canada (from Riga, Latvia) 1.5 year ago, I put my “little obsession” on hold. Then (January, 2010) I realized that if I can’t afford a watch I like right now why shouldn’t I try to make one!”
“It started with one and now I have made almost 300 different watches,” continues Agni. “As much as I enjoyed buying a new watch, to create one is so much better! I look for inspiration everywhere, but mostly the ideas come to me at night when I’m working at my Toronto home studio. When I had to think of the brand name of my watches I thought it should be something meaningful and happy… and my happiest day in all year is May 28th when me and my husband are celebrating our anniversary.”
These one-of-a-kind watches have a plastic watch face, elastic band, quartz movement, battery operated and water resistant.
