Alexandra Samit, a recent Emory University graduate, launches Alexandra Beth Designs at the Young Designers Market, combining her business degree with her artistic talents to become one of the newest members of this long-standing, SOHO-based designers’ collective.

A native of Potomac, Maryland, Samit credits her business degree with moving her design company from her dorm room to the Internet and New York City.

“It’s been my goal to set up shop in New York City, and much of what I’ve learned in my marketing and business classes has enabled me to get here,” says Samit. “I’ve been able to create a business plan, upload and design a website and find ways to bring my designs to a broader audience.”

Samit strung her first beads at age six and by the age of 15 had sold her first pieces commercially. Since then, her designs have sold in dozens of boutiques across the country, and she is fast becoming known for her inspired line that embraces a distinct and edgy fashion sense, particularly her recently launched two-toned, wrapped leather bracelets. Also available at www.AlexandraBethDesigns.com, her unique designs are a mix of soft leather and studs, delicate chains and gemstones. The result is a collection that is beautiful and wearable with each piece made by hand and priced affordably. Her materials come from all over the world, as close as New York and as far as Africa and India. Her jewelry designs have been featured in The Washington Post, Atlanta Magazine and Lucky Online, among other media.

“For as many days as I spend making jewelry, I spend exploring the city for new ideas, new materials and new designs,” says Samit. “Jewelry is very personal and, for many people, it represents who they are. When someone wears one of my pieces, I want them to feel as good wearing it as I did designing it.”
