Although it’s easy and quick to apply, even a tiny amount of glitter can pump up almost any makeup in an instant;  however you should isolate it to one feature—lids, lash line, lips, or cheekbones. Don’t use it all over, you will look like a Halloween costume gone bad.   A major issue with Glitter is that if someone decides to use it, they use it until the cows come home.  This will make you look like a disco ball.  However if you just want to add some “pop” to your holiday makeup, less is usually more with glitter.

A major issue with applying glitter is fallout.  You should apply a loose powder under the eyes before applying glitter to the lids.  You should also use some type of cream eyeshadow base to help the glitter adhere to the eyes better.   I just use a cream shadow, dip my brush in it, then dip it in the glitter.  This guarantees that it won’t get all over the place.  Then, when you are done, brush away the loose powder, and the glitter will come off in an instant.  Another option is a Band-Aid.   Use it to clean up any bits that may have fallen off to your cheeks or nose.

Shimmer is going to be popular for Spring and Summer 2010.  Believe it or not, there are different grades of shimmer, and different textures.  The more finely milled it is, the more natural looking it is.  The cheaper eyeshadows have chunks of shimmer that may actually look like glitter.  Higher quality shadows have a high quality shimmer that is ground up finely, so it feels like a cream.
