Led by hair stylist Sean James, RUSK was honored to style the hair backstage at the Monarchy Collection show during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Spring 2010 in New York City. Taking place at the Bryant Park tents on Friday, September 11th, the show was fabulously presented by Eric Kim and styled by Laura Duncan with hair executed beautifully by Sean James for RUSK.

‘It was an amazing time at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week doing hair for the Monarchy collection. There was so much going on backstage, and we where there with Rusk supporting us. “It really was quite a show, Teddy Thompson , on a world tour opening for Elton John, stopped by in search of a ‘tour’ look. Justin Timberlake, Shannon Elizabeth, AnnaLynne McCord and Janice Dickenson where all there sitting front row,” states James.

Sean James prepped damp hair with RUSK THICK and blow dried the hair while smoothing it out. THICK gives the hair texture and control to hold the style and create fullness.

He then isolated the hairline sections and set them forward toward the face, creating a face frame. The remaining hair was set in a classic set using ½ inch sections wrapping the hair from the base to the ends using tension and high heat, which created a tighter and consistent curl.

In finishing the look, Sean flipped the head upside down and sprayed with W8LESS shaping spray, lightly separating the curl taking care not to loosen the, making the look full and soft at the same time.

For the 6 girls in the show, the look was inspired by a mix of a 70s disco curl and a 80s scrunchy perm. The team drew inspiration from a woman travelling in humid climates – Monaco, Old Australia, Miami, Hawaii – in the clothes from the collection.  The 12 men’s looks were inspired by the Sloane Rangers in London (a term which refers to a combination of “Sloane Square,” a location in Chelsea famed for the wealth of residents and frequenters, and the television Western character “The Lone Ranger.”)
