Fatima Adamu will be performing a site-specific dance piece with Sasha Wright, created especially for BUS STOP!
Fatima Adamu was born in Philadelphia, and grew up in Nigeria, West Africa with her American mother and Nigerian father. She began writing poetry and drawing when she was 10 years old and is a self-trained painter, costume and fashion stylist, poet, model, actress, singer and dancer with a B.A in Geography and Urban Studies from Temple University. She presently works in the fields of city planning, voice and dance.
Public transportation, whether you love or hate it, is an integral part of the urban landscape. Some even go so far as to call it a city’s lifeblood. Deep, intimate secrets are disclosed in a cavalier manner on a cell phone, friendships made and love affairs blossom along trolley tracks and between subway stops. Shoes accompany us as we traverse the urban landscape and send telling signals of who we “think’ we are.
As Fatima stood in the shop, the words “BUS STOP” and “underground” mixed with the scent of new leather and the sight of beautiful shoes for every mood, Fatima was “moved” to craft a site-specific intervention that she hopes will amuse, tantilize and stimulate the viewer, SEPTA or London Underground user or not.
